Lunenburg-based Salt Parlour uses custom labels to give each of their four small-batch potato chip flavours a distinct look without committing to large runs of fully printed packaging. The flexible setup lets founder Felicity Watson keep production manageable as Salt Parlour moves from local farmers’ markets toward retail.
"I’m the founder of Salt Parlour, a new small-batch potato chip company based in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. I launched the business this summer with four flavours, and I currently sell primarily through local farmers’ markets while I work toward expanding into retail.
I use Little Rock to print the front labels for my chip bags. As a very small, early-stage food business, fully custom-printed packaging would require committing to much larger quantities than I’m ready for, so using high-quality printed labels on stock pouches has been a really useful solution. It lets me keep my packaging flexible while still creating something that feels polished, distinctive, and true to the Salt Parlour brand.
The labels are a big part of the packaging design, particularly because each of our four flavours has its own colour and identity. Since launching, the response has been very encouraging: we’ve sold out at markets and have already started hearing from retailers interested in carrying the chips. I've had great feedback about the labels."
