This local artist turned their paintings and poetry into greeting cards with help from Little Rock Printing, making their artwork more accessible through quality printing, flexible orders and fast turnaround times.
"I’m always looking for ways to translate the work I do into other media to make it more accessible for local artisan markets. Markets are such a hit-or-miss type of event that experimentation and prototyping is the name of the game. My felted work already lets me turn my art into something wearable for everyday life, but I needed a way to make my paintings themselves more casually accessible. Not everyone has hundreds of dollars to hang something on a wall.
I decided to try greeting cards, and I had busy fall/winter season coming up, so I was looking for something I could have in hand well ahead of my busiest winter market dates so I could iterate and experiment at the smaller markets before then. It would need to be a service that lets me be selective about print run sizes and has quick turnarounds.
A colleague recommended Little Rock as a great local print shop during a show for the Leighton Art Centre, mentioning the quick delivery and great service, and I was drawn to using a local shop rather than having to send off my work to a huge brand somewhere else.
So, I packaged my paintings and a short poem in a Canva template and sent it off for a small print run of greeting cards.
The order said 1 week to delivery, but we got a message that the cards were ready the next day! And they came out looking great— with just one problem: somewhere along the way, a poem had been mixed up with the wrong painting. Something to be expected of a test run— or as I call it, the "first pancake". I didn’t notice until I checked at home, so I sent an email to Brian at Little Rock… and to our surprise, he handled it that evening. A fresh reprint run was waiting for us the next day. We finished two order cycles in less than half the time we expected to have done just one.
The cards have been a success! The quality itself is great, and the best part for me is just knowing that I won’t need to wrestle with an anonymous service online or somewhere out of province. I’ve gone back to Little Rock whenever I update a design, knowing it’s just going to be handled. Every time, it’s done well ahead of schedule, and payment has always been flexible and easy.
I believe the kids would say… no notes."
