Brand Kit Basics
Your brand kit is your centralized hub for all things branding—it’s a collection of graphics, colour schemes and more that align to your brand’s personality. It’s easy to set one up in Canva, but you do need a Canva Pro, Teams or Enterprise account.
Getting Started
- From the homepage side panel, select “Brand”.
- On the Brand Kit tab, select “+ Add New”.
- Name your brand kit.
- Upload your brand logos, colour palette and fonts. (We’ll break these categories down below.)
- You can also create branded templates so that you can easily design your most important print products or digital assets.
Uploading Your Logos
- On the Canva homepage, click “Brand”, then “Brand Kit” in the left-hand menu. If you have multiple brand kits, select the one you want to edit.
- Under the “Logos” section, click “+ Add New” or drag and drop your logo files. Canva supports PNG, JPEG and SVG formats.
- Click “Upload Logos”.
Adding Brand Colours
- On the brand kit page, locate the “Brand Colours” section.
- Click “Add a Colour” and enter the hex codes of your primary and secondary colours. Stick to 3–5 main colours for consistency. Use shades or tints for visual variety while staying on-brand.
Uploading Custom Fonts
- On the brand kit page, scroll to the “Brand Fonts” section.
- Click “Upload a Font” and choose your custom font files (TTF, OTF or WOFF).
- You can also select a text style. From the dropdown, select a font and size and make it bold or italic.
- Be sure to follow these common typography guidelines:
- Headings: Your boldest and most distinct font.
- Subheadings: A more neutral complement to the header.
- Body text: Simple and readable, especially for small print.
Applying Consistency Across Templates
Once your brand kit is set up, you can apply it to all your print materials—automatically or manually. Here are some ways to ensure consistency across your brand templates.
Use the Brand Hub Tools
When designing a new document, click “Styles” on the left toolbar to apply your saved brand colours and fonts. Brand templates in Canva Pro also let you replace default assets with your uploaded brand elements with just one click.
Typography Best Practices
- Use consistent heading sizes and alignments across templates.
- Stick to the same font pairings for every print material.
- Avoid over-styling, like excessive bold, italics or all-caps, that disrupts visual harmony.
Colour Usage Guidelines
- Primary brand colour: key elements like headers or borders.
- Secondary or accent colours: supports the design without overpowering it.
- Maintain high contrast for readability.
Layout and Spacing
It’s also important to keep margins and padding consistent across all templates. Logos, contact details and taglines should appear in predictable positions across designs.

Designing Core Materials in Canva
When designing your print products, each print product has specific design recommendations to consider—whether it’s the sizing, spacing or must-have information to include.
Business Cards
- Keep it simple: Logo, name, title and essential contact info.
- Use both sides: One side for branding (logo, tagline) and the other for contact info.
- Stick to standard size (3.5 x 2 inches or 1050 x 600 pixels in Canva).

Letterheads
- Place your logo at the top left or centered in the header.
- Include company name, address, phone and website in the footer.
- Use your brand fonts for the body and heading styles.
Envelopes
- Include your return address in the top-left corner.
- Use your logo and brand colours subtly—don’t clutter.
- Match the envelope style with your letterhead and business card for a polished look.

File Management: Organizing and Exporting Print Designs
Once you’ve put your brand kit to use, it’s time to get your designs ready for export. Use folders to group your assets together by theme like business materials, marketing collateral or event branding. Simply click “Projects” and then “+ New Folder”. Rename your files with a clear title so you can find it easily.
When your design is ready:
- Click “Share” in the top right corner, then “Download”.
- Choose the “PDF Print” format from the file type dropdown options.
- Check “Crop marks and bleed” (important for printers).
- Select “CMYK” under the colour profile.
- Click “Download” and your design should be in your Downloads folder.
It’s important to back up your designs in both an editable version (in Canva) and as a final PDF version. Be sure to rename your files to something beyond the default “untitled design”.
To keep your company’s designs on-brand, designers can share brand kits with the whole organization. This feature is available for Canva Enterprise and Canva for Districts.
- From the homepage side panel, select “Brand”, then select the “Brand Kit” tab.
- Select “More” on the brand kit you want to share.
- Select “Share” and in the dropdown, select the organization. A pop-up will appear.
- Read the pop-up and select “Share”.
