Finding a Hi-Res Image on Google

The first place you want to look for a hi-res image is Google.com. You’ll be able to filter by size so you can find the perfect image for your life size cutout. Here’s a quick step-by-step guide on how to search for one on Google:

1. Go to Google.com and type the image you’re looking for in the search bar. Be sure to include the word “standing” so you get a clean head-to-toe shot. Example: “Taylor Swift standing”
2. Click on the “Images” tab.
3. To make sure you’re only filtering hi-res images, go to the end of the tab options to “Tools”. Then go to the “Size” dropdown and change to “Large”. That will filter out any low-res options and only give you hi-res options.
4. Be sure to find a photo with her feet in the image, so you’re not cutting off at her leg or knee.
5. Click on the image you want to use. When it pops up in the preview window on the right, right click it and “Save Image As”. When you save, make sure it saves as “png” or “jpeg” as the file name. Download the image to your desktop or folder.

If you’re using this image for a personal event, birthday party or gathering, you’re free to use what you want. However, if you’re printing multiple life size cutouts for commercial use or for a business, then you need to have the rights to the image. Just something to keep in mind while you’re looking for images.

Start Editing Your Project With Canva

Once you’ve saved your image, you’re ready to start editing in Canva—a great online design tool that you can use for free! To get started, log in to your account or sign up.

After logging in, go to the square that says “Custom Size”. Our life size cutouts are typically printed on a 4mm coroplast board measuring 36 by 72 inches, so enter “36” in the width and “72” in the height. Be sure to switch the units of measurement from pixels to inches. Click “Create New Design” and it will open a new tab with a blank white background as your boundaries for your life size cutout.

Remove the Background and Make Image Adjustments

Now that your custom design is open, you’ll need to upload your image for small edits and adjustments. Go to the top left section of your screen to File > Import Files > Choose Files. Find the image on your desktop or folder and upload the image.

When it’s first imported, it will pop up on the left side. Click on it to pop into the white background. It will appear smaller than the blank canvas, but we can adjust that soon.

In some cases, the image you chose will have a background to it. In the middle of your screen you’ll see “Edit Image”. Click on “BG Remover” in the Magic Studio section—you will need Canva Pro for this. The background will be instantly removed.

You’ll notice a purple border around your image. Go ahead and tighten the border around the image by dragging the sides and corners to remove any extra background space that’s not needed. Then, move the image to the upper left corner and drag the edges and corners to fill your white canvas. Name your file in Canva so it saves to your account.

Download Your File For Printing

To download your new design before sending it off to Little Rock for printing, you’re going to simply:

1. Click “Share”.
2. Scroll down to “Download”.
3. Make sure your file type is “PDF Print”.
4. Choose CMYK colours.
5. Click “Download” and save it to your desktop or folder.
