If you’re looking for a secure and highly-visible way to display a promotional message at your office, business or restaurant, then a roll up banner stand is the way to go. The purpose of a banner stand is pretty similar to a regular printed banner; however, a banner stand will keep your banner in place and it’s easy to move wherever you need it. You can use a banner stand to display sales and offers in a retail storefront, showcase new meals or specials at a restaurant or as a welcome sign in your office lobby.

Best Practices for Designing Effective Banner Stands

You want to make sure that your banner stand catches your customer’s eye, so it’s important to consider the layout, content, and colour scheme. Provide quick and easy details for a lasting impression. Our banner stands come in standard and premium options to hold your custom design so you can display it proudly.

For an effective custom roll up banner stand design, we recommend focusing on these areas:

  • Define Your Audience: Before designing, define your target audience and create thoughtful messaging and images that appeals to your prospective viewers. Be sure to include all pertinent information on your banner stand like your company name, special offers, your website URL, a slogan or headline and any other important details.
  • Choose Your Specs: Depending on the message you want to convey, choose the size and space you’ll need to tell your story in a clean and creative way.
    • Choose your size. Our recommended size is a height of 33.5 inches and a width of 80 inches, made for long-term usage. We also make a skinnier, short-term banner stand (also called an X-banner stand) at 23 inches by 63 inches.
    • Consider your margins and white space. For a regular banner stand, you’ll want 2-inch margins on both sides and the top and then 4 inches on the bottom.
  • Visual Appeal: Crisp colours, images, and typography are a great way to capture your viewer’s attention and ensure legibility. It’s best to use your company’s existing colour palette so you’re consistent with your brand identity.
  • Clarity: Make sure the message is easy to understand and digestible when read quickly. You also want the font size to be large enough so viewers can read it from a short distance and are enticed to get closer and read more.
  • Call to Action: Encourage your viewers to take a specific action at the bottom or corner of your banner stand, like checking out your website, sign up for an event or calling a phone number for more information. Adding a QR code is a great way to make the banner stand actionable on the spot.

Banner stand Canva templates created by Little Rock Printing

Step 1: Choose Your Template

Little Rock offers two free Canva templates for custom banner stands as well as many other popular print products. To get started, select the template you want to customize then click “Use template for new design”. You’ll be taken to Canva where you can start designing your custom poster.

For this example, we’re using our standard 33.5×80” banner stand template. The default design size in Canva is 36×72” for banner stands, so if you don’t use our template you must resize your design to fit our 33.5×80” printing size.

For Best Results:

  • Prepare the content and images for your banner stand in advance to save you time once you start designing.
  • If you want more control over your design, consider upgrading to Canva Pro for access to premium features.

Step 2: Customize Text For Your Roll Up Banner Stand

Now that you’ve chosen a custom banner stand template, add the messaging you want to include on the banner portion. Replace the placeholder text with your own and remove or add any text boxes as needed.

For Best Results:

  • Remember all the information that you want to include on your banner (your company or event name, a headline or slogan, important dates or prices, etc.).

Leave enough space in your design so that the text doesn’t feel too crowded. You also want to allow space to add your company logo, images, or other graphics.

Step 3: Insert Hi-Res Images or Graphics

After you’ve picked a template and edited the text, you’ll want to insert any images, logos, graphics, or QR codes. If your selected Canva template came with a stock image, simply right-click and select “Delete” to remove it.

To add an image or graphic, click on the “File” tab on the top left of the screen then select “Import Files”. Click “Choose Files” or simply drag and drop the files from your desktop.

Once your photo or graphic has been uploaded, you may need to go back and fix any spacing issues surrounding the image.

For Best Results:

  • Keep images simple but punchy and choose something that aligns with your current brand and style.
  • Be sure your logo and company/event name are prominent.
  • Make sure all raster images have resolutions of 300 dpi or better and have them saved to your computer ahead of time.
  • If you’re not including a QR code linking to your website, be sure to have your URL in a prominent spot.

Step 4: Customize Design Elements

Once all of your basic details are laid out, you can start playing around with design elements like the colour palette and backgrounds. There’s also a section in Canva called “Styles” where you can choose from pre-made colour palettes and fonts.

For Best Results:

  • Choose a background colour or texture that suits your brand and message.
  • Use readable fonts and ensure the text is clear and easy to understand with your colour palette.

Step 5: Review Your Work, Save & Download PDF

Once you’re happy with your custom roll up banner stand, take one last review of your project. This is a good time to look for any typos, errors, and check margins before you submit your final product.

Submitting Your Design to Little Rock for Printing

You’re almost ready to print your roll up banner stand! To ensure high-quality prints, be sure to save and download your custom banner stand in a print-friendly format like PDF. There’s even an option in Canva to select “PDF Print” specifically for printing purposes.

Follow these easy steps to prep for printing:

  • Go to “Share” in the upper right corner.
  • Select “Download” from the dropdown menu.
  • Choose “PDF Print” under “File Type.”
  • Include “Crop marks and bleeds.”
  • Choose “Flatten PDF.”
  • Opt for “CMYK” under “Colour Profile.” (This does require Canva Pro)
  • Click the “Download” button to export as a PDF.

When you’re ready to submit your banner stand for printing, your final cost will include the printed roll up banner, hardware, installation and a carrying case. We have a variety of hardware material options to choose from:

  • Standard banner stand: Professional yet lightweight. The banner is printed on super smooth banner material and installed into a roll up banner stand.
  • Premium banner stand: Same as the standard, but with a larger and more robust stand and a larger, padded carrying case.
  • Re-skin existing banner stand: Already have a banner stand but need a new printed banner? Bring in your own hardware! Place your order before arriving so we can pair your order number with your hardware.

Frequently Asked Questions About Roll Up Banner Stands

What Can I Use a Banner Stand For?

Banner stands are a great way to promote a business or event in a large space. A few examples include:

  • Showcasing new menu items in the front of your restaurant
  • Promoting an upcoming event or fundraiser
  • Highlighting a new product in the lobby of a doctor’s office
  • Spreading awareness about the purpose/motto of your company

What Size and Margins Should I Consider For a Banner Stand?

We recommend following a standard 33.5×80” size banner for your banner stand—we even have a free Canva template for it. For margins, you’ll want 2 inches on both sides and the top and then 4 inches on the bottom.

When Should I Use Banner Stands vs X-Banners?

Regular banner stands are ideal for displaying messages in longer-term situations (like corporate or retail displays). Our roll up banners can still be moved conveniently though, since they are designed to pack and unpack easily and come with a carrying case.

X-banner stands are cost-effective and portable options that make great temporary or mobile displays. They’re ideal for special events like one-off galas and conventions.

How Long Do Banner Stands Normally Last?

Our banner stands can last for years with proper storage and maintenance. To ensure your banner stands last as long as possible, always exercise care and caution when rolling or unrolling the banner, and be gentle with the pole to prevent bending or breaking it. Finally, make sure to store your banner stand in the carrying case provided whenever you aren’t using it.

How Do I Set Up A Little Rock Banner Stand?

Here’s a quick guide to setting up our roll up banner stands:

  • Unpack the banner, stand and pole from the carrying case
  • Place the base of the stand on the floor
  • Pull the banner out of the base and attach it to the pole at the top of the stand
  • Click the other end of the pole into place at the base of the stand
  • Extend or retract the pole to change the height of the banner as needed
